Interflora back in the Game
Interflora, one of the best known flower delivery company’s in the UK is back in Google after an 11 day penalty for a so called aggressive advertorial campaign in many of the national newspapers as a lead up to Valentines day.
Having lost its organic listings in Google for both own name and generic searches, this occurrence highlights Google’s policy on paid links including advertorial pages with embedded links. Basically you website will be penalised in the search rankings if you are paying for links back to your website. This may not happen immediately but eventually you will pay the price for unethical SEO sometimes referred to as Black Hat.
Google is very clear and has published guidelines to highlight what is considered ethical SEO or White Hat.
Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines. It’s all about creating helpful and interesting content. Think about what makes your website unique, valuable, or engaging. Make your website stand out from others in your field.
Avoid the following:
Automatically generated content
Participating in link schemes
Hidden text or links
Participating in affiliate programs without adding sufficient value
Loading pages with irrelevant keywords
If your current SEO or web design company is employing any of these tactics it could be harmful to how high up your website appears in Google and ultimately affect the growth of your businesses.
C Pages Web Design Birmingham only involves itself with ethical White hat SEO techniques.

Google Panda Update
Web pages that appear in Google as some people think are not ranked alphabetically. In fact Google has a number of complex algorithms or formulae which ranks your pages in Google based on a number of on page and off page factors.
The latest panda algorithm update is designed to reduce rankings for low content quality sites due to duplicated content from other websites or sites that are just not very helpful. However Panda will provide higher rankings for sites with original and helpful content.
If your website content is borderline spam be careful. Be sure all content on your website is as original as possible, in fact if the majority of your website is considered as “thin content” , then your whole site not just particular pages could drop into oblivion.

Responsive web design for mobile devices
Responsive websites basically deliver different information in a different layout depending on the device being used to view the website. It could be a mobile phone, it could be a tablet or a laptop.
Responsive web design or mobile friendly websites seems to be the latest bandwagon jumped on by the web design industry . Opinions seem to be mixed in terms of how effective it may be in making your website a more useful marketing tool to help grow your business.
Whilst more and more users are accessing the internet with a mobile device, does this trend actually have any bearing on your particular business or can it be seen as a “must have” for all websites? The answer i feel is down to your particular market place and what you want your website to achieve. An E commerce website selling to a younger marketplace is a no brainer for having a responsive website, however if your website is for information only or data capture as opposed to online selling, then I believe having a responsive web design is less important and may reduce the visual impact the design of a non responsive site may have.
